     Bill Gallagher has extensive experience and is highly skilled at helping heal many kinds of low back pain including:

  • Spinal Stenosis

    • Bill's approach to treating ​spinal stenosis combining tai chi, very gentle yoga and feldenkrais awareness through movement lessons, is extremely effective.  By choosing how to stand, sit, walk based on how it changes the pain (rather than how they think it looks), most patients experience significant relief in the initial session.

  • Herniated Disc (aka slipped disc, pinched nerve)

    • Bill's treats herniated disc with a combination â€‹of tai chi, very gentle yoga and feldenkrais awareness through movement lessons to learn to avoid movements that irritate spinal nerves.

  • Spondylolisthesis​

    • Tai Chi Chuan and Baguazhang help clients cultivate movement habits that avoid putting the​ spine in an unstable, back-bent position.

  • Tension Myositis Syndrome

    • Many people experience low back and neck pain driven by a psychosomatic ​mechanisms.  The typical physical therapist attempts to blame the pain on "bad posture" or "weak abdominals", feeding the story that "there is something wrong with the structure of the spine" and distracting the patient from the root of the problem.
